WHERE THE RIVERS FLOW NORTH

Photographs of the Northeast Kingdom, part 1

The Northeast Kingdom is a small slice of Vermont nestled in between the Connecticut river to the east and the Canadian border to the north. The geographical area is defined by its north flowing rivers. The Northeast Kingdom has a special place in my heart. I have been visiting the area for over 50 years and Ellie and I own a camp in the Kingdom.

Beautiful rivers, mountains, field after field and woods that track for miles. Hiking north you need to keep a mindful eye for the international border markers or you could easily find yourself in Canada.

In all this beauty, is the reality that times are tough. The Kingdom’s economic recovery has not kept pace with other parts of New England. Abandoned buildings, homes and farms dot the landscape, mixed in with each town’s day to day life.
