Braided channels, gravel bars, silver salmon and bears – fishing the Kanektok River, Quinhagak AK!
The Kanektok River flows through the Togiak Wild Life Refuge and empties into the Bering Sea. Alaska Fishing describes the river as “one of Alaska’s most celebrated salmon and trout streams”. A huge flat expanse of braided channels, gravel bars, silver salmon and bears. The salmon migrate from the sea back to their breeding grounds on the gravel beds in the river, spawn and die. These magnificent fish attract bears and fisherman alike. The trick is to share the river, but at a safe distance!
